How to look after your dried flowers

So, you’ve received some dried flowers. Maybe they were a gift, maybe they partied with you on your wedding day. But how to ensure they can last for years to come?

Dried flowers can be easy to take care of but to ensure they stay looking their best and beautiful for years here are a few helpful tips.

They can be fragile and they will change over time. Being a natural product they won’t just perfectly suspend in time indefinitely but they will last for years if you look after them well!

No water thanks!

Unlike their fresh friends, dried blooms do not like water at all. It makes their stems weak and mouldy. Keep them warm and dry at all times.

Avoid direct sun

Dried flowers will naturally fade over time, particularly if they are kept in direct sunlight. This is part of their charm, but to slow the fade, keep them away from direct

Be gentle

They are fragile, and become more fragile as time goes on. You may see some fall out from grasses, some petals or some little blooms but don’t despair, this is natural and won’t affect the beauty of the blooms.

A quiet place

They’re best suited to a spot with little movement so probably not be best to be placed on a dining table where they’ll be lifted up and down or moved around a lot.

No little hands or fluffy paws

They’re best kept out of reach of children and pets to keep them looking their best for the longest time… and to stop them ending up in little mouths – they’re not edible and can often be toxic to our furry friends!

Good airflow

Ensure good airflow around your blooms and prevent temperature fluctuations. They don’t need airflow directly from an open window but in a stagnant or damp room they may become moist. If they become moist they can become mouldy. Sometimes vases can capture moisture and humidity within them so check the stems within the vase now and then – see that they’re nice and dry. If they look a little moist, think about putting them in a different vase.
